I wonder if the Toyota DVD drives will only reliably accept commercially burned DVDs. All the DVDs are readable in the computer disc drive and show no errors. I misspoke the other day about my own v5.1, the one copy I created is a coaster. The v8.1 won't load but if I put it in without power cycling, the system will use its data and correctly identifies it as v8.1. Multiple 9.1 versions attempted several times each have produced coasters. Version 5.1 is my original disc acquired with the car.

Versions 9.1 and 8.1 were downloaded ISO files. My results? I've tried to burn versions v9.1, v8.1, and v5.1. After burning DVDs, booktype is correctly set to DVD-ROM, verified by ImgBurn and DVD Identifier. The Pioneer is running the latest firmware, v1.22 and is patched using MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers and DVRFlash to enable DVD-ROM booktype. This SATA-interface drive gives you reliable writing with a 2 MB buffer, buffer under-run protection, and automatic adjustment of write speed according to media type to ensure that you're burning useable media, not coasters. In dual-layer format, a single DVD will hold 8.5 GB of data. My Pioneer DVR-215DBK DVD/CD Writer (acquired 2008) supports 20X write speed on DVD-R/+R media, and 10x speed on DVD-R/+R dual/double layer media. The model number of these discs are 95311. One poster swears by Verbatim DL DVD 8X in the jewel cases. There are a few posters who believe Verbatim discs are better. Some have reported success with these discs and ImgBurn. The only discs I've tried so far are Memorex DVD+R DL. In the case of my functioning original disc, v5.1, ImgBurn was used to create the ISO file. I'm using ImgBurn to burn DVDs from ISO files. My system is a NAV Gen 5 in a 2006 Prius package 7.
